Airventure Cup Race

Well, the plane is almost ready. I need to give it a final cat bath and fill it up with fuel.

The new fuel tank resides in the location my clothes and computer used to go, so there is not much room left for anything else. I can take some spare oil and tools, my iPad (which I use in the cockpit as a map), a change of clothes and a tooth brush. You wear this plane more than you ride in it.

The new fuel tank gives me a total of 18.5 gallons total. My calibrated fuel flow indicator (which I love) says I am burning 5 gallons per hour in cruise with a speed of about 180mph. The flight today is about 460 miles. I could make it in one flight but I am going to stop in Kankakee for fuel and to give my butt a break.

Its 7:21am, the day I am supposed to fly out to the race start in Dayton, OH. There is a nice line of storms over northern IL. I will have to wait for that to pass to get very far. I will post as things progress.
